Marcie Roberts
School Head
Marcie
began her duties as School Coordinator for Richmond Friends School in 2004. She received
her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at the University of North Carolina-Chapel
Hill. Her varied experiences since then include management positions within the hospitality
industry as well as a small Internet start-up company. She is a trained facilitator of
both high and low ropes courses and has led outdoor education courses for such institutions
as Greensboro Day School in North Carolina, the University of Virginia’s Outdoor
Recreation Program, and Southwest Field Studies at Earlham College. In her most recent
position, Marcie was the Coordinator for the Bonner Scholar Program at Earlham College,
a need-based service learning scholarship, where she worked with 60 students and many
local nonprofit agencies. Marcie’s family includes her husband Jay, who works in
both the Wilderness and Education programs at Earlham, and her daughters Ellie and Arden.
Nicole Blair
School Coordinator
Nicole graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering from MIT. She also holds a masters degree in Biology from Notre Dame. She has taught High School Chemistry and Biology as well EcoBio at Earlham College. She served on the Pauline Trueblood Child Development Board for 1.5 years before co-leading Earlham’s Environmental Studies Semester in New Zealand with her husband Peter, a Biology Professor at the college. Nicole joined our staff in spring 2011 as an interim Coordinator and is returning this year to assist with the Office and other internal school duties. She is joined here at RFS by her daughters, Savanna and Maggie.
John Sheets
Third to Sixth Grade Teacher
John graduated from Earlham College in 1992
with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Deciding his future would be best spent in
education, he graduated from Indiana University East in 1997 with a BS Degree and Certification
in elementary education. That same year he received the Student Teacher of the Year award
while completing his student teaching at the multi-aged, portfolio-based Discovery School,
a choice school in the Richmond Public School System. He has been teaching at Richmond
Friends School since the fall of 1997.
Laura Sheets
First to Second Grade Teacher
Laura graduated from Bates College in 1988 with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, and from California State University Long Beach in 1994 with a Masters Degree in Education: Curriculum Development and Instruction. She holds Indiana teaching credentials for preschool through eighth grade. She also has special certification as a Language Development Specialist. She has been teaching at Richmond Friends School since the fall of 2008.

Marianne Cope
Pre-K to Kindergarten Teacher
Marianne graduated from Earlham College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Her
20 years of teaching in New England include teaching kindergarten and first grade in
a Quaker School; working as a teacher/naturalist at a wildlife refuge; directing a parent
cooperative nursery school; and teaching kindergarten in an independent elementary school.
She received her teaching certificate from the State of Rhode Island. Upon her return
to Indiana, Marianne worked for the Cope Environmental Center managing the facility and
grounds. She joined the Richmond Friends School in the fall of 2001.
Kay Maurer
Extended Care Provider and Lunch Support
Kay has been with Richmond Friends
School since 1987. She provides morning care, lunch care, and after-school care. Kay worked in the dental
field and did bookkeeping before joining Richmond Friends School. She and her husband
Jeff live next door to the school and have three children. They are both active in the
Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.

Cassie Gage
Third to Sixth Grade Teacher Assistant
Cassie Gage is a recent graduate from Earlham College with a degree in Sociology and Anthropology. Before joining the Richmond Friends School, she volunteered at various elementary schools and after school programs around the Richmond area as a tutor. During the summer she worked as a summer camp counselor with children, ages ranging from eight to twelve years old. Cassie enjoys playing and watching all sports, reading, traveling, and being active. This is her first time officially working in the classroom, and she is excited about being a part of the Richmond Friends School. In the future, she hopes to work towards getting her Master’s in education or social work.

Meghan Scales
Pre-K to Kindergarten Teacher Assistant
Meghan is a recent graduate of Indiana University East receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She holds a teaching license for grades K-6. Prior to working at Richmond Friends School, she spent the summer of 2010 as a Literacy Assistant for Third Grade Academy in Richmond, and spent the last half of the school year as a substitute teacher at Centerville and Hagerstown schools. This summer, Meghan taught a theater camp at Richmond Friends School. She enjoys music, theater, crafts, and being outside. She is enthused about teaching, and is excited to start her career while simultaneously working towards her Master’s in Education at Earlham College.
Terry Scott
Office Manager
Terry is entering his 28th year as an educator; he has had teaching experiences with kindergartners through graduate school students in a variety of educational settings including both public schools, independent schools, and universities in urban, rural, and suburban settings. Terry received a B.S. in elementary education from the University of Cincinnati. He then completed the Teacher Leadership M.Ed. program from Wright State University. Terry later focused graduate course work in the areas of curriculum theory and science education at Purdue University. He then completed an interdisciplinary PhD in educational leadership and zoology at Miami University. While formal classroom instruction has served as the foundation of Terry's teaching background, his recent teaching and research focus concerns sustainability education in rural Christian communities.
Keith Cozart
Music Teacher
Keith Cozart received his B.A. in Music (percussion), with a minor in Business from the University of Northern Colorado. At Earlham he teaches applied percussion and directsthe Hand Drum Ensemble and Rhythm Project. Also faculty at Indiana University East,Keith carries a full roster of private percussion students from the surrounding communitywhile maintaining an active live performance schedule. Among his other musicalinterests are drum circle facilitation and instrument building. With Earlham’s support, hehas traveled abroad to Salvador, Brazil and Guinea, Africa to study the roots of AfroBrazilian and West African music. He is a member of the Percussive Art Society and an adjudicator for the Indiana State School Music Association.
Bookkeeper
Cochran and Associates are providing the bookkeeping services for Richmond Friends School for the 2011-1012 academic year.
